HOW TO BUILD A BRICK WALL: A 10 STEPS GUIDE
A first solution is to build a plasterboard wall.
But you want something more stable, durable and above all you would like to do with your hands.
For this you need to know how to build a brick wall.
Allow us to explain with this practical 10 steps guide.
WHAT YOU NEED TO WORK
- hollow bricks
- bucket masons
- set square
Before you start work, marked as it will be great the wall and how many bricks you need to pull it up.
HOW TO BUILD A WALL IN BRICKS
Using set square and pencil, draw two perfectly parallel lines along the floor, then along the walls: in this way you will delimit the area where you will build the wall.
If the wall does not extend to the ceiling, mark on the wall the height to be reached.
If the wall has to come up to the ceiling, then you must make marks as those made on the floor and on the walls.
With the help of a mallet and chisel, remove the part of the existing plaster.
Mix the concrete, in the amount that will be needed to complete the job.
Wet with water traces on the floor and on the wall.
Using a trowel, past a cement mortar layer about five centimetres wide and just over bricks.
Starting from the track along the wall, place the first row of bricks on the first layer of cement mortar.
HOW TO PROCEED...
Put the mortar also on the side of the brick that will be in contact with the wall.
Completed the first layer of bricks, check with the level: it must be perfectly straight.
If you need to seat it, take lightly tapping with the mallet, before the mortar to solidify.
Completed the first row, proceed in the same way with the second, however, remembering to stagger the bricks in order to make the whole more solid and resistant structure.
Remember to leave space for the door (if you want one).
When with rows of bricks will be arrived at the door, place a beam and then continue with bricks right up to the ceiling.
At this point, you just have to plaster the wall and paint it.
While you are putting the bricks, past the trowel on the joints so as to remove the excess grout.
This part of the guide assumes that you provide a stable surface to build on the wall.
Otherwise, you will need to lay the foundations of the wall: it is to dig up to create a kind of "channel" to be filled almost entirely of concrete.
The depth and the width of the foundation will vary depending on the size of the wall to be built.
Now that you know how to build a brick wall, you can start working.
But first there are a few recommendations that you should always keep in mind:
- prudence is the first thing
- be careful when handling tools, bricks and cement
- always work with gloves and, possibly, with a protective helmet
