Smartseal Cold Lay Tarmac is ready to use quick, cost-effective repairs to paths and driveways.
Simple to use, No specialist tools or equipment are required
Preparation
Ensure the area where the cold lay repair is to be laid is clean and dry.
Application
Apply the included 0.25 litre Primer to the area to be repaired.
Use an ordinary rake, spade or trowel to spread the
cold lay repair. Leave approx 10mm higher than damaged area to allow
maximum compaction
Use a heavy, flat object for 'tamping' Wet the tamper frequently to avoid the cold lay
repair sticking to the tool.
When repairing deep pot-holes (greater than 30mm) lay the cold lay repair in two stages.
Thoroughly compact the first layer to 20mm and leave for 24 hours. Then thoroughly compact
second layer to the required level. Allow the repair tarmac to harden fully.
It is not recommended to use product in temperatures below 10o
PLEASE NOTE:
After prolonged storage, it may be necessary to expose the cold lay tarmac to direct sunlight
for 1-2 hours prior to opening to soften the material and restore workability.
Coverage rates will vary greatly relative to depth of potholes
See How to and step by step guides on www.smartseal.co.uk for further instructions.
Q: I have just purchased Cold Lay Tarmac. There are instructions for use on the tub, but no mention of the application of a bottle of liquid contained in the tub. What is this and how is it utilised on the tarmac repair process?
A: The liquid in the tub is a primer. It is used to line the surface of the area you are filling with the Cold Lay Tarmac to help it bond better to the surface your are repairing.
Q: The tarmac has come away at the edge of the road about 30cm long, 10cm wide and around 4cm deep - would the cold lay repair work for this? Also - what is tarmaseal, does this come with the cold lay product or is it purchased separately?
A: The Cold Lay Repair Tarmac could be used to acrry out the repair you have described. Tarmaseal is an acrylic surface coating used to restore old tarmac surfaces and make them look better. Tarmaseal is purchased seperately.
Q: I have a 1 metre square of uneven tarmac can your cold lay be put on top of it or do you sell sample pots in black of your restorer
A: For shallow uneven tarmac surfaces it is best to cut out a deeper hole to ensure you can pack in enough of the repair material and it will have sufficient strength to withstand traffic from cars. If the repair is too shallow the cold lay material will only break up if a car goes over it.

I bought Smartseal Cold Lay Tarmac to repair some cracking, great product. That said, I have one criticism, and it is to do with the small 0.25 ltr bottle contained with the tub. The small bottle is not labeled and the instructions on the tub label do not mention what the liquid in the small bottle is for. It would be extremely helpful if the small bottle was labeled and instructions for its use placed on said label.
Used cold laid red tarmac to fill in a wide slot made when removing a root. The tarmac was perfect for the job but clearly the colour did not match the existing aged drive colour, so use some of the removed tarmac crumbled up and and pressed into top layer of the new application. This gave more of an acceptable match.
Good product and did the job finally but took 7 days to fully cure so was sticky and couldnt be walked on which was a bit annoying. Still its set now and looks great!
