Black Limestone Sealer - Re- Colours and Seals
Easy to Apply, Hardwearing Solvent-Based Sealer and Colourant
Smartseal black limestone sealer is a highly-effective solvent-based sealer and re-colourant for black limestone which gives a transformative effect.
Limestone slabs will often fade over time and gradually turn a lighter shade of grey. The black limestone sealer can transform the look of faded limestone patios and make them look like they were recently laid. The sealer can be re-applied at any time to ensure any limestone slabs on patios or other external surfaces look good at all times.
Preparation:
- Clean surface using a pressure washer and/or Patio Clean Xtreme.
- Allow to dry for a minimum of 72 hours
- Apply above 12°C with a temperature no higher than 23°C
- Two coats are recommended
- Apply by roller
- Coverage: Average coverage approx. 4 - 5m²/litre first coat (dependant on surface) and approx. 6 - 8m²/litre second coat
Always apply to a test area first to determine suitability. A sample size (150 ml) is available for purchase should you wish to try it before committing to purchase 5 Litres.
***PLEASE NOTE*** - For best results, if a sweep-in jointing compound has been used when the slabs were laid, we would recommend using the residue remover prior to application.
Q: What do I use to clean brushes after applying Black limestone sealer?
A: You would need the tools cleaning fluid to clean the roller. If you do not clean it, you can use again in future as the black limestone sealer will soften it up again.
Q: Hi - I have slate tiles on my kitchen walls and floor, they were dark grey / black, but over time have become patchy. I want them to be solid black with a sheen ideally. Would your black limestone sealer work on my slate tiles, or is there another product better placed? I have looked at your colour enhancer sealant but am not sure it will do the job on those areas of slate which almost looked bleached in colouring! Many thanks - Jo
A: The Black Limestone Sealer is not recommended for sealing slate tiles. We do not really have a another similar product. You could consider using the Heavy Duty floor paint which comes in a number of colours including black and dark grey.

A: We would not recommend using the black limestone sealer on slate tiles. Slate is a very dense substrate, which would make it difficult for the black limestone sealer to penetrate and adhere to the surface over time.

Our driveway had extensive damage to a container of bitumen dropping on it and a large area eventually turning white, despite the bitumen being washed of quickly. I didn't really have much hope but I am amazed the this product has lifted the whiteness and restored the colour in minutes. Very easy to use. I'm now going to try and patch up a lot of patches of deteriorated concrete and I'm quite hopefully the product for that will do the job. Excellent product!!
You get what you pay for. It works, the black limestone sealer works very well and I would recommend this product 100%
I had a question for Smartseal technical team, and as always they responded efficiently. It was George from the team who helped with a complex question regarding products I can use on Black limestone, which was already protected with Smartseal for black limestone sealant. Which looks fantastic!! I needed to further stabilise the jointing compound. George's response:- "Thanks for the message. The black limestone sealer would be fine for these compounds. Usually, to help solidify it as much as possible 2 coats on the compound is best. If you did do a further application I would focus just on the pointing rather than adding an additional coat on the limestone itself as you dont want too much on the surface as it can start to have adhering problems. I hope this helps!" It's also Thankyou George and Smartseal
